Crowds? Fireworks? Shopping? - Help Please

I keep reading about how crowded it is and that bike riding is the best way to get around the island. I%26#39;m traveling with my MIL who is legally blind (just legally, not totaly). I%26#39;m nervous that driving around will be a problem in mid July. What should I expect?

Also, what would be the best way to make sure you see the fireworks? How soon would you have to arrive? Exactly where do you have to go?

Also, it doesn%26#39;t sound like there%26#39;s one major area to go to on the island??? Where can I take my MIL shopping? Should we be planning mostly day trips when there to accomplish this? Charleston, Savannah, etc.

We%26#39;ve never been. Our groups age range will be from 3 to 67. Any and all advice welcome and totally appreciated!!!

If you are asking about July 4th, there are three fireworks presentations. Seapines has it in Calibogue Sound and you are best off viewing it from Harbortown.

Mid Island will have their display at Shelter Cove

And the North Island Display can be seen from restaurants like Hudsons, Boathouse, Charley%26#39;s Crab, Sunset Grill or the Old Fort Pub. You can also see them from Dolphin Head which is in Hilton Head

Plantation.

During the summer there are also fireworks on Tuesday evenings at Shelter Cove. You can take in Shannon Tanner and stay for the fireworks.

As for shopping, there are two Discount Malls near each other just off the island on route 278 in Bluffton. You will see them driving on to the island. They are called Tanger 1 and 2. Here you%26#39;ll find stores such as Brooks Brothers and Van Heusen. They have lots of shoe stores (Nike, Johson %26amp; Murphy, 9 West) . Jewelry, toys, books etc.

The largest shopping area on the island is Coligny Plaza at South Forest Beach. Here you will find some stores and gift shops which sell beach type gifts (tees, Funny stuff, Schlock). The shopping here is not all bad. The local Chico%26#39;s is here for example.

If you are staying in Sea Pines you will want to shop and walk around Harbortown and South Beach.

For the younger children in your group (up to eight). They will have a great time at ';The Sandbox';. This is the islands new childrens museum. It is located on Pope Avenue.

We have traffic here during the summer, but except for Saturday afternoon in Bluffton coming onto the island. It moves! Many of us like to bike however, and like Seattle we make it easy to get around the island.

Thank you hhiguy! Your advice on this board is great!

HHI Guy,

Since we will be there the week of the 4th, which of the three would you recommend? I think we can walk to the one in Seapines since we are staying on Myrtle Lane.
