Planning a trip to Charleston

My family and I are planning a trip to Charleston in July, however we are having a hard time finding enough beach resorts to chose from. All I can find is Seaside Inn and Wild Dunes Resort. The Wild Dunes looks real nice and all but I would like to be able to chose from a couple so Im not forced into a resort. If there are any local experts out there that can tell me about some other beach resorts then I would greatly appreciate it. We are looking at any part of SC except for Myrtle Beach...too busy, we want a quiet, relaxing vacation. So I figure the top two spots are Charleston and Hilton Head??? If there are any other famous beach spots in SC please let me know. Also I guess, if you have any knowledge of Hilton Head Hotels then that would also be greatly appreciated.

Wild Dunes is a good resort; I wouldn%26#39;t call Seaside Inn a resort, more like a hotel on the beach. That%26#39;s about it for resorts in Charleston; however, just south of Charleston is Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island, both of them very nice and seem to be what you are looking for. Hilton Head is very nice too. The Legend of Bagger Vance was filmed on Kiawah Island, infact the rebuilt a hole (golf) there just for the movie...so that%26#39;s a famous beach spot.

Planning a trip to Charleston

Try Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island. Both Resorts are a relaxed 35 to 40 minute drive into downtown Charleston and both have the quiet you are looking for.

The only hotel is the luxurious and expensive Sanctuary Hotel on Kiawah. On Kiawah, most people the rent homes, cottages, or condos, which also benefit from the Resort%26#39;s amenities.

Kiawah is top rated for golf and tennis. It also has a spectacular 12-mile beach; many miles of bicycle trails; and river, marshes, and creeks for canoeing and kayaking.

Seabrook is smaller than Kiawah, but is also extremely nice.

well what are the regulations for renting a house, cottage, or condo?? we only want to stay for a few days fri-sun.

That is a problem. Most places on Kiawah rent only by the week, Sat - Sat, during peak family vacation season, from early June through mid-August. Any other time of year, you would have no problem.

Try an interent search for a ';Kiawah rental'; or ';Seabrook rental';. You will turn up links to sites like www.vrbo.com, which list postings from individual property owners. You may find someone for whom the short rental works just fine.

Also, no matter how firmly the weekly rental policy is stated on line, call the management companies (Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Pam Harrington Exclusives, Beachwalker, ResortQuest) to ask what would be availbable for a shorter visit.
