Which Plantation for family vacation?

I am going to Hilton Head and would like to know which Plantation you think is the best for a family with children 11 and 16. Which will have the best beach, most important, and activities to keep the kids occupied? Does anyone have a preference of Sea Pines or Palmetto Dunes? I was going to stay at the Hilton Hotel with the family but after reading the comments, it sounds like we should rent a house near the beach.

Rent a house or a villa. Please read the STICKY ';plantations'; for an idea as to where to rent.

In your case since Beach is most important, probably Palmetto Dunes.

If you like a total family atmosphere Palmetto Dunes is the Plantation for you. It is centrally located so it makes it convenient to everything you would want to do. They have a cute general store the kids can bike up to and buy Icees and soft serve, candy bins, a grill that will cook small meals. We rented a house not far from the Beach and either walked or rode our bikes to the beach. I think that is what I loved best about HH was just riding around on my bike. Palmetto dunes was quite busy, Sea Pines was too busy for me. I also liked the Shelter Cove area across the street from the PD plantation.
