Question regarding Charleston

I was wondering if anyone knew of another city/area that has the same beauty and serenity as a place such as the Middleton Plantation coupled with the convenience and excitement of a close-by area like the historic district of Charleston. I plan to come back to Charleston next year, but I was wondering if Savannah, GA or Asheville, NC (or another location) had the same mix of serenity and good restaurants like Charleston does?

Thanks.

Question regarding Charleston

We went to Asheville last year after spending a 4 days in Charleston and Charleston was much better than Asheville. Asheville is nice but you don%26#39;t have everthing within walking distance. We did stay in a lovely B%26amp;B there called the Sourwood Inn. We are going back to Charleston this year if that tells you anything and we are actually flying from Texas this year instead of driving down from Maryland. We LOVE Charleston because the food is so good and you can walk and explore. I have not been to Savannah, but heard that Charleston again is better. Now, remember you just have to experience these other places and try not to compare them to Charleston because there just isn%26#39;t any place as charming! Hope this helps!

Question regarding Charleston

Darlene, Asheville is a beautiful city, of course, famous for the Biltmore Estate. If you havaen%26#39;t seen that, it is a must and will take a whole day to see the 250 room Chateau and 75 acres of formal gardens. At the end of the tour there is wonderful winery with wine tasting. There are three great resturant on the estate. Also Grove Park Gallery and Museums, Thomas Wolfe Memorial State Historic Site, and the Bototanical Gardens of Asheville. Like the other writer said these sites are not in walking distance of one another, but well worth the trip. September and October are good months to visit. The leaves are turning and the mountains look like a magic picure of color.
