Dining with a toddler. Also, the best breakast spot near...

We%26#39;ll be staying on Kiawah Island next week. Just wondering if anyone can recommend the places to dine with a toddler. Our child is quite well behaved, thankfully. We%26#39;d like to eat in the best possible places that won%26#39;t mind us having a child with us.

Also, any recommendations for good breakfasts??

The grill at the Ocean Course Clubhouse has a nice breakfast buffet. The setting is lovely - right on the ocean and the golf course. You can eat outside on the veranda. The place is rarely crowded and there are plenty of selections to please your toddler.

Thanks, Kiawahvilla! We%26#39;ll look into it. Enjoying our stay so far!

Hi there! I don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;re still following up on this post.... It caught my attention because I%26#39;m from the lexington area as well, and am considering a trip to Kiawah Island later this summer! (With a toddler, too! ) Did you drive to Kiawah, and if so, how long did it take? Also, any other recommendations would be so much appreciated! :) (Accomodations, dining, ';toddler'; activities, etc.) Thanks! :)

Your toddler will have a great time on Kiawah Island. The beach is a great sand box and the surf is calm at various points during the day. There is a nice playground at Night Heron Park pool.

Pool access may be important for a toddler. If you rent from the Kiawah Island Resort you will have access to the Night Heron Park Pool. If you decide to rent from another management company or ';by owner'; the rent may be cheaper. However, you will need to rent a Greenslake Cottage (2 BR), a Sparrow Pond Cottage (3 BR), a Duneside Townhouse (3BR) or an Inlet Cove Cottage (3 BR) to insure access to a community pool.

There is a Nature Center at the Night Heron Park and lots of activities such as the Kiawah Karnival, Family Bingo night, and Magician that are available to everyone. There is also a children%26#39;s museum and many other activities in Charleston a short drive away.

I am a new owner and have 3 small children. If you have any questions, please email me at susie.oringel@earthlink.net.

Dear Miss Fahsoo,

I want to say the total drive time from Lexington to Kiawah was about 9-9 1/2 hours. We stopped in Columbia, SC the first night which made the next day of driving so easy. Our villa wasn%26#39;t supposed to be ready until after 4pm but we checked in around 12:30 and it *was* ready, perhaps because it was a slow season.

I highly recommend renting a place with an equipped kitchen. There *are* places to eat but they are expensive for what you get. Although I have to say our meal at Turtle Point Grille was superb but very expensive (a la carte menu). And every restaurant charges $5-$6 for a kiddie meal, even if it%26#39;s just a bowl of buttered pasta. That *was* ridiculous. Think Portofino or Bistro La Belle prices for restaurants but not nearly as good.

The grocery store at Freshfields Village is wonderful (can%26#39;t remember the name). Have you ever been to Fresh Market in Louisville? It%26#39;s a lot like that. In Lexington you could compare it to Wild Oats. Next time we go we will shop there and dine in for sure.

We rented bicycles and a bike buggy and rode up and down the beach a lot. It was great. Other than that we hung out on the beach or on our deck. I%26#39;m sure there are lots of activities for kids but our child is only 1 1/2 years old so we were limited. Nap time cannot be missed!

Hope some of this helps.
