Must-sees:

*Historic Charleston tour by bus, carriage, or walking

* The Battery

*The Market

*Waterfront Park

*A plantation (I%26#39;m partial to Middleton Place and Drayton Hall)

*The historic district in general is filled with historic homes, churches, museums, and special events.

*Since you want to learn some Civil War history, the Fort Sumter Tour is a MUST, and if you are here on Sat or Sun, visit the Hunley Confederate Sub.

*There are two Civil War walking tours that are both interesting!

Southern Dining:

*Jestine%26#39;s Kitchen

*Hominy Grill

*Poogan%26#39;s Porch

*82 Queen

*Magnolias

~just to name a few

Walks:

*Charleston is BEAUTIFUL at night

*Try a beach right outside downtown: Folly, Isle of Palms, or Kiawah (Kiawah is private for the most part)

Hotel:

*Quality Inn and Suites is a nice hotel in North Charleston. You%26#39;re renting a car so you can get to whereever you need to be. Stop by the visitor%26#39;s center in downtown Charleston. They have a direction sheet forr all the points of interest you may have to drive to (like plantations, Hunley, beaches, etc)

****CONGRATS AND ENJOY****

Thank you energizer bunny - your expertise is greatly appreciated. IOne final question. I surmise Charleston is know for its seafood- but is there a classic Southern ribs place to eat. Thanks. We look forward to our trip.

Sticky Fingers has barbeque and ribs, they have several locations in town. Also Bessinger%26#39;s Barbeque is good, a mustard based sauce. In Mt. Pleasant there is Momma Brown%26#39;s barbeque which is a hot style of barbeque with a sauce made of red pepper and vinegar. This is my personal favorite, it is the type I grew up eating. My husband (also from SC, but a different area) grew up eating the mustard sauce type. Momma Brown%26#39;s is the only one in Charleston with the vinegar/pepper type. Whatever you choose, I%26#39;m sure you will enjoy it.
