New comer

I think I may be going to Charleston this summer but not sure yet. Looks like a great place to go with nightlife, shopping, museums, and such. I have on question though. I really want a beach trip.... Is Charleston on the beach? I feel really stupid for asking....

Thanks!!

*Not a stupid queation at all! Downtown Charleston is not on the beach, but you will find several beaches right outside Charleston. Isle of Palms is off Hwy 17-North and Folly Beach is on James Island (take Calhoun Street out of Charleston or Hwy 17-South out of Charleston). A little further out you will find Kiawah Island (my fav! ) and Edisto Island.

*You%26#39;re right about Charleston being the place to be for history, shopping, and nightlife! You could stay downtown and take a day-trip to the beach or stay at the beach and visit downtown.

*Enjoy it!

Isle of Palms is my choice! A beautiful, clean beach and easy to get to from Charleston. Just find I-526 and follow the exit signs till you see Isle of Palms. Then a short(5 min.) trip across the Connector and into downtown Isle of Palms. Places to eat, shop, nightlife. It offers almost anything. We like to eat at the One-Eyed Parrot(it%26#39;s upstairs, so you have to look for it). It%26#39;s also on the beach, so ask for a table beside the window. Very nice.

Just a note - if you are downtown, 526 is NOT a good way to get to the Isle of Palms. You would take Hwy 17 North and follow the signs. 526 works better if you are in North Charleston or parts of West Ashley. Don%26#39;t want you to get lost! Isle of Palms is a great place to have the beach vacation and still extremely easy to go downtown for sightseeing, restaurants, museums, etc.
