Charleston to Savannah in early October - Suggestions for...

My wife and I are planning a trip to Charlston in late September or early October. We%26#39;d also enjoy seeing Savannah for a day or two. My thought was that there must be a fair number of beach condo or timeshare rentals for that time frame and hopefully at a good off season rate. Of course the beach isn%26#39;t neccessary factor in the shelter hunt.

I thought staying somewhare between the two cities would give me the flexability to maximize our stay and not worry about moving every night or two and would give us a short stay home away from home.

If you have a moment to share, We%26#39;d love to get your suggestions for our visit, not only the lodging but also day trips around both cities.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

There really isn%26#39;t much between the two cities except at Beaufort, SC and that%26#39;s a pretty good ways from Charleston. I really think the trouble of going back and forth would be worse than just changing cities.

If you can arrange it, the first weekend in October is the annual Oktoberfest on the Riverfront in Savannah, with the BIG day on Saturday. Bands, food, goodies, arts and crafts, even weiner dog races. It%26#39;s most enjoyable.

Beach resorts between Charleston and Savannah include Kiawah, Seabrook, Edisto, and Hilton Head. The problem is that there is no road that runs directly island-to-island, so you have to keep drive 15 miles or so off the main road and then back again to continue on your journey to either city.

Kiawah and Seabrook are close to Charleston. Hilton Head is close to Savannah. Edisto is between. Beaufort is a very pretty, historic town ... Somewhat closer to Savannah than to Charleston, but do-able for either if you really want the lowcountry experience and don%26#39;t mind the drive.

Thank you very much for the information you%26#39;ve shared. Time got away with me on doing my planning but I%26#39;m back to it now. Since I%26#39;m German by birth, Octoberfest in Savannah is now a locked in deal for us. You,ve made my day since I spent a portion of the same time frame looking for an Octoberfest in PA while headed to Niagra Falls last year, without luck. PA and no Octoberfests?????

Thanks again..

That%26#39;s great!!! Check out this site. Scroll down until you get to October.
