First timer to HH in two weeks!

First--Thanks for the sticky on plantations hhiguy--very helpful. Sorry for the lengthy post. Just got out of school and am really ready for a break . . .

We are coming to HH for about five days in a couple of weeks. Never been to HH, but have heard great things.

We are looking to relax on the beach, do a little sightseeing, and enjoy *some* of the nightlife. We don%26#39;t have children and are not really into crowds.

We don%26#39;t want to spend a lot on the hotel seeing as we will be out of our room most of the time. Clean and comfortable--not necessarily a lot of bells and whistles.

We are looking at the Residence Inn, Hampton Inn, and Holiday Inn--I guess they would be considered mid- and south-island respectively. Any others we should be considering? Should we even consider, since we will only be in for five days, looking at any of the condos/villas? Would we have more beach access if we did?

Where do we want to be? Which beach(es) would fit our needs best? Is everything fairly accessible (meaning if we are more north, can we drive to the south end fairly easily)? Besides Holiday Inn, do the hotels we are looking at have easy access to local beaches? (They say close to beaches, but some of these beaches sound private--gated).

And finally, any adivce on the ';MUST DOs'; and ';MUST SEEs'; on the island?

THANK YOU!

there are two Holiday Inns on the island. One is oceanfront, and the Holiday Inn express is near the beach.

The Hampton Inn and Residence Inns will require you drive to get to a beach. An older but still servicable property that you may be able to rent for 5 days is the Adventure Inn. It is due to close in October, and be rebuilt, but they have 1 bedroom and suites available.

Tere is also a Comfort Inn in the south forest beach area where you can walk to the beach. Check this one out.

The Holiday Inn Express is now the Beachwalk Hotel and is about 1 1/2 blocks from the beach. It has been totally redone. Has a small pool but usually not alot of people in it and the grounds are very nice and pleasant - also shady. Good beds, breakfast, morning paper. You can walk to the beach or they have a free shuttle as does the Comfort Inn. They are running a June coupon rate on their website

www.hiltonheadbeachwalkhotel.com We just stayed there and only got our car out to kayak one morning. There is a nice putt putt across the street and enough good restaurants in Coligny to eat all week. I like to get take-out and go eat on the beach for lunch.
