Beach Wedding?

I am planning to get married on or near the Beach in Isle of Palms...Does anyone have any suggestions of a perfect spot or another area that would better? I live in Ohio, so I need all the help I can get on this! We also need a ';back-up plan'; in case it rains...any suggestions of where we could have a small indoor wedding %26amp; reception? Thanks!

Beach Wedding?

What time of year are you thinking of? The ';back up plan'; may be more of a problem - Most things suitable for this book up fairly early and I don%26#39;t know if they would take a reservation on a ';what if'; situation without expecting you to pay in advance, rain or shine.

I live on the Isle of Palms. I think the tip of the island at Breach Inlet is pretty. Breach Inlet separates Sullivan%26#39;s Island and IOP. The other end of IOP is pretty also. Wild Dunes Resort is on that end and they could possibly accomodate the ';back up plan';. You will also need to consider the time of day and what the tide will be doing at that time. The beach is much more narrow when the tide is high.

Without prying too much - do you have a price range in what you are able to spend? What are you looking for in a reception? That might help me be able to make better suggestions. I know how hard it is to plan a long distance wedding. I got married in Telluride, CO while living in Pittsburgh.

Beach Wedding?

Thank you for your reply! As for the reception, we are thinking about getting married on the beach, then going on the Spirit of Carolina dinner cruise, since it includes dinner and dancing(do you know anything about this? If so, do you recommend it?) It looks like a fun time to me. We don%26#39;t really want anything extremely formal, because there will only be about 25 people coming for the wedding, from Ohio. We don%26#39;t really have a set budget, we just want to have really nice memories!

Also, what do you think about the Holiday Inn Express? Do you think it would be better to spend more money and stay at the Wild Dunes Resort, Boardwalk Inn or rent a condo on the beach? We thought about renting a condo/house, but you have to rent by the week in summer, not just for a night or 2. Thank you for your help and feel free to make any suggestions!

The Holiday Inn is fine - it is in a fairly busy part of the beach ( the busiest actually) next to a large bar with live music. So there may be more traffic/noise than you would like. Wild Dunes would be a quieter, more upscale area.

It has been many years since I did the dinner cruise but I enjoyed it and it is pretty popular.

Also if you let the Wild Dunes people know your plans for a wedding, I%26#39;m sure they can offer some help and suggestions as well. They recently opened a spa there, so those services might be great for pre/post wedding. I have not been there myself (yet) but the info they sent me said that they have massages, mani/pedicures, hair salon, make up artist, etc.

I%26#39;m sure you can find lots of florists, etc online, but I can help you weed them out if needed. I have a friend who is an event planner and I could ask her if she knows a caterer who can make a small wedding cake.

That would be great if you could ask your friend if she knows of someone who could make a small wedding cake! I was wondering what we were going to do for a cake!

We are going to have the wedding in June of 2007, but I think we will make a weekend trip to IOP this summer to check everything out, and we could pick out the cake too!

We were thinking about having the beach ceremony at 5p, is that a good or bad time for the high tides?

I got a good laugh from your question, but how could you know????

Tides along the ocean change times daily, so it would depend on the specific day. In general, there are 2 high tides and 2 low tides per day. This actually takes 25 hours, hence the gradual change of times. For example if high tide is at 6am, approximately 6 hours later (noon) you will have low tide and so on.

I do not know if any tide charts predict that far in advance (2007), so you may need to wait a little while to find out about tide info for the date you choose.

ooops, sorry! Glad you got a good laugh though!

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you!! To be honest I asked my friend about bakers while at a dinner party and then promptly forgot about the whole thing! Too much wine and fun I guess. I have forgotten the specific one she mentioned ( I can find out again) however she said he was pretty expensive.

While you are visiting the IOP, check around, I think you will be able to find a tide table or at least someone that has access to one.

In fact, I found one once, (but I don%26#39;t remember where) on the Internet. The tides won%26#39;t matter unless you choose a spot that has no exposed beach at high tide.

A late afternoons in June have more than usual afternoon thunder showers. You might want to think about an early afternoon, (1:00) instead. I think it would lessen the chance of rain. The showers usually don%26#39;t last long and perhaps you would not need to find another place, just delay the sevice for a 1/2 hour. However, I have been known to be very wrong about weather so don%26#39;t trust a word I say.

Thank you very much for your info...Everyones advice has been VERY helpful! I am getting so excited for this special occasion! Thanks again!
