Just got back ...

Just got back Saturday from 2 weeks holiday and cannot believe how lovely the weather was. Two weeks of continuous hot sunshine. That%26#39;s a first for us as we normally have a mixture of cloud/rain and sun. We took advantage of the happy hour specials at Wild Wing and Big Bamboo and apart from the normal restaurants we go to we took Stan%26#39;s advice and went to Old Fort Pub and Frankie Bones. We had a really lovely meal at Old Fort Pub but Frankie Bones%26#39; spaghetti with meatballs was absolutely first class. Considering we were on Forest Beach the beach wasn%26#39;t really busy except for memorial weekend when a lot of youngsters finishing college invaded the part by the Holiday Inn. There%26#39;s one question I wanted to ask and that%26#39;s about tipping, only so I know that we have been leaving the right amounts (and because me and my husband couldn%26#39;t agree). We have been to USA loads of times and in different states so things may vary. On other forums this topic can get very heated, so to avoid this I would ask if only Stan could answer. What would you leave % wise if you were going:





Breakfast at Skillets



Bar meals at Wild Wing/Bamboo/Caseys



Old Fort Pub/Frankie Bones



Marleys

Just got back ...


Unlike Europe, we generally tip here. There are few exceptions. When you are part of a large partyof six or more, most of our local restaurants will add a 17% or 18% gratuity to the bill. You are always encourged to add to this for exceptional service.





Other times we will tip between 15% and 20% for service. If you have a poor experience and you know it was the server%26#39;s fault leave a smaller tip, usually 10%. I find that if you do that, the next time the service will be better.





leaving a very small tip for bad service, will not help if you plan to go to the restaurant again.





If the server is not at fault ask to speak to the manager. Many times they will adjust the bill to make good.

Just got back ...


Thanks Stan. We were leaving, as we normally do, 15-20% so I feel happy that we didn%26#39;t upset any servers. Do you know what happened to Murphy%26#39;s as it wasn%26#39;t open when we were there last week. Inside there were tables but it was all shut up. Did it open and close or is it waiting to open?




It should have been open. I work with a brit who is a habitue. I%26#39;ll ask him and get back to you.

My british friend thinks you might have gone there on a sunday. They are closed that day.
