Things to do at Myrlte

We frequently vs\acation at Myrtle Beach, but we would like some to do some different things this year.

We%26#39;ve done the water parks, putt-putt golf, the dinner theaters, race cars, etc...but we%26#39;d like to do something like snorkel, kayak, or take a evening cruise along the shore.

Hopefully someone will know somehting about these activities in Myrtle Beach.

As far as snorkeling is concerned....I%26#39;m not sure it is possible unless there is a charter boat that would take us to a coral reef .... hopefully the water would be clear enough farther out....but I%26#39;m not sure there are reefs near to Myrtle Beach.

Would love to kayak, but not in a scanky river....was hoping to kayak in the ocean...but is it safe...is it difficult?

I%26#39;ve also looked for an evening cruise that would follow the coast line... or a fun day cruise.

Hopefully someone will have some info (even costs) for me.

Thanks in advance!!!!!

P.S.

We%26#39;ve done Broadway, Barefoot, and those things.

As far as snorkeling...the visibility here at the beach is really limited, and really no coral reefs to speak of...now there are a few atrificial reefs that you could dive at, and there are a few companies that do offer daily dive excursions. One I can think of is Coastal Scuba.

For kayaking on the ocean, if you are somewhat experienced in operating a kayak, using one on the ocean shouldnt be too hard...you will need to watch the weather to make sure the shoreline seas are too much for the kayak, but if you get a real still day, it can be great fun to kayak along the shoreline! A few companies will rent the kayak by the day or week, or you can go to Downwind Sails at 29th Ave S and rent by the hour. Downwind also has jet skiis, banana boats, and hobies to rent. For daily or weekly rental, check out Sail and Ski Connection on Rt 501 just as you come into MB.

For an ocean cruise, you might check out one of the casino boats. they do evening and noon cruises out of Little River. There is a company that runs sailboat tours out of Georgetown, I think its called Capt Wallace....or you could do an adventure tour thru HurricaneFleet (www.hurricanfleet.com) The website for the casino boats are www.suncruz.com and www.southernelegance.com Not sure what the costs are for the rental of the kayaks, you might try googling Downwind Sails....

Have fun!

We visited a cute little winery in North MB. It was La Belle Amie (or something close). They had wine tasting %26amp; a gift shop...nice places to sit outside. Not terribly expensive but can%26#39;t remember the prices.

The Sea Screamer is a fun daytime boat ride. It leaves from North MB too. I like it because it takes you on a slow ride %26amp; then a fast, fun ride up the NMB beach area.

My husband %26amp; sons have done a 1/2 deep sea fishing trip %26amp; loved it.

Re-read my post. Oy! I meant to say 1/2 day deep sea fishing.

Thanks MB for the info.

I was pretty sure snorkeling wouldn%26#39;t be happening in Myrtle....oh how I miss the Caribbean. But....every vacation has it%26#39;s pluses and minuses.

We aren%26#39;t bad at kayaking, but we%26#39;ve near kayaked on anything but calm creeks...so not sure I%26#39;d feel safe. My older kids are old enough to kayak alone but the younger two ages 10 and 13 would have to go with one of us adults....I%26#39;m not sure I would be able to feel safe taking care of someone other than myself on the ocean. ---- Good tips...thanks!

I had Googled the cruises and found the gambling boats...again, not sure a gambling boat is where I want my kids... but I will check out those sites.

By the way MB.... you are a fast responded!!!! Awesome!!!!

Thanks again

for your help!!!!!

Sopranofreak -- we have boys also and the need for speed is unreal...

Perhaps we%26#39;ll check out that speed ride!

Thanks!!!

Both have kayaking on the ocean, parasailing, jet skis, banana boats and Sail boats.

Sopranofreak - who did they use for the deep sea fishing? I%26#39;ll be staying in Pawley%26#39;s Island in August and am trying to set something up, but all the places I find through google look like their boats are shaky at best...

Thanks!

Why dont you try www.seascreamer.com We had a great time on this trip and saw a ton of dolphins. Make sure you go on a sunny day because unless you sit in front towards the side you get drenched. PS the tour guide works for tips give her a couple of bucks.

There are a few captains that dont advertise like the big guys (Captain Dicks and the Hurricane Fleet) but they are out there...you might try contacting some of the local marinas (Myrtle Beach Yacht club 843-249-5376, Dock Holidays 843-280-6354). I have used the guys at Hurricane Fleet on a number of occasions, they have sport fishing available either on a head boat or private charter, what they lack in looks they make up for in expertise --- never heard of them having any problems with their vessels. www.hurricanefleet.com

I personally know the fellows that operate Capt Dicks, and its pretty much the same thing --- these are vessels that head out to the ocean on a daily basis, they arent going to put themselves or any of their passengers at risk. www.captdicks.com
