How's the giant sand castle coming along?

I seen a shot of it as they were only a couple days into the building on our local news here. How is it coming along? Anywhere I can see some pics of it?

How's the giant sand castle coming along?

Try WPDE.com. That%26#39;s one of the local TV Stations. They%26#39;ve been covering the progress. Although this morning they had a story on it being vandalized over the weekend but I believe the damage was minimal.

That makes me angry, I just don%26#39;t understand people these days, it%26#39;s a sad day and age we live in now. Sometimes I wonder just how people%26#39;s minds are wired these days. I hope they get the record just to prove a point that even in the face of vandalism it didn%26#39;t slow them down. That would be icing on the cak....er sandcastle! I wish them the best.

This was in our local paper today:

';A group of vandals scaled a mound of sand early Monday and nearly ruined Myrtle Beach%26#39;s shot at becoming the city where the world%26#39;s tallest sand castle was built.

Later the same day, the damage was repaired by the crew sculpturing the Sun Fun sand castle. The creation is expected to be 35 feet tall and will be finished on schedule, said Nicole Aiello, public information officer for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

';They worked about half a day to repair it,'; Aiello said.

A press conference will be held at 6 p.m. today to measure the castle, which is about 60 feet across at its base and required the delivery of 130 dump truck loads of sand, chamber officials said.

Meanwhile, chamber officials are investigating the vandalism incident and haven%26#39;t decided whether to press charges, said Stephen Greene, chamber festivals vice president.

A security guard reported that the group of men involved in the vandalism climbed almost to the top of the castle, then threw objects at its top, causing significant damage, Greene said.

';It%26#39;s built from the top down,'; Greene said.

He said the men broke through a fence surrounding the sculpture to access it. Greene said a security guard managed to catch one of the men, but as of Tuesday no charges had been filed, he said.

';We are looking at the situation, what happened, and the reasons behind it,'; Greene said.

The Chamber of Commerce has hired Team Sandtastic of Florida to build the sand castle, which they hope will qualify for the Guiness Book of World Records as the tallest sand castle in the world.

Team Sandtastic was hired on a contract to work from May 31 through today to finish the project, Aiello said. She said time lost in repairing damage will force the team to leave some detailing off the castle.

Team Sandtastic also built the tallest sand castle on record so far, a 29.25-foot-tall sculpture built in 2003 in Falmouth, Maine.

In 1991 a 86,535-foot-long sand castle built in Myrtle Beach made it into the Guiness Book.

That project was done with the help of more than 10,000 volunteers, Aiello said.';

Where is the saand castle we are heading down this weekend and want to go see it.

I would also love to see it. How long will it stand, do you think? We won%26#39;t be there until next Thursday, should it still be there? I read about the vandals on Myrtle Beach%26#39;s Sun News website, and thought ';why would someone do something like this? What kind of satisfaction would they get?'; I just don%26#39;t undestand some people.

Anyway, I really want to see this. I am sure my 2 year old will love it, too.

The Sand Castle is right there at the Pavilion...on the ocean side, near the stage. It usually is able to stand the elements for quite awhile...of course depending on our rains and such...it is really awesome! Its almost as tall as some of the building in that area!
