Looking for comments from a local

My family is renting a house on the beach on Palm Blvd this summer. We have about 13 people spending the week and four kids between the ages of nine and fourteen.

Here are some questions:

Is there bike rental available?

Is there chair/beach umbrella rental on the beach?

Recommendation for an ';adult only'; dinner out on Isle of Palms?

Grocery stores and liquor stores on the island?

Stores for the teens to browse?

Never been here before and we are really looking forward to it. Half the fun will be discovering new things but anything I can find out before the trip will be extremely helpful. Thank you in advance!

I live on IOP and here are the answers

Yes, there are bike rentals on the island

No, no chair/umbrella rental that I am aware of

Yes, grocery store and liquor store. The grocery store is small, there is a much larger one (Piggly Wiggly) just across the bridge.

Yes, there are some stores to browse, not alot. Town Center Mall is in Mt. Pleasant, also just over the bridge, 1-2 miles from island.

As far as adults only dinner, I think the better choices are on Sullivans Island, we seldom eat on IOP.

High Thyme restaurant is my favorite! It is small, make a reservation. They have excellent food, comparable to good downtown restaurants. Station 22 is also good as is Atlanticville.

All 3 of these are on Sullivans Island - which is the next island over and about a 5 minute drive. Poe%26#39;s (named for Edgar Allen, who once lived on Sullivans Island) is a burgers and beer place, great atmosphere, lots of Poe memorabilia. They grind their own meat fresh daily for the burgers.

Tons of great restaurants in Mt. Pleasant if you go there. My personal favorites are

Waters Edge - great food, great view, right on Shem Creek.

J. Bistro - their duck breast is the best ever!

Cappricios - traditional italian

Sette 7 - eclectic, casual, moderate prices

Hope this helps and enjoy your trip!

Thanks endosunshine, I have read almost all the posts in this category including past posts of yours. All very informative.

You definitely can rent umbrellas as my mom has everytime we have gone. You can ask at the front desk when you check in for a recommendation of a place. I cant remember the name off of the top of my head
