North Myrtle Beach and flies

Hi...Hubby and I visited NMB 3 yrs ago in the middle of Sept. We were inundated with pesky flies(sometimes they even bite). My question is--is this a normal thing at that time of year, or was this a freaky one time thing? We are thinking of returning to Myrtle Beach(this time around Pawleys Island) around the 1st part of July. Are flies going to be a problem for that time of the year? We only get a real nice vacation once a year and we want it to be very relaxing(don%26#39;t want to worry about any flies) Any advise is greatly appreciated!

North Myrtle Beach and flies

Ohhhh...that pesky ';beach'; fly! And yes, they bite --- and its painful! Seems, from my experience anyway, that if the wind is coming off the beach, they arent around....but if it is a still day (say those dog days in August!) or if the wind is from the west (blowing towards the beach) they tend to come in swarms!

If we are planning a day at the beach and the conditiions are fit for the flies...we%26#39;ll bring a couple citronella candles, and an area bug spray...sounds crazy, but it helps keep them at bay!
