Best Grocery shopping?

Hey,

We are heading to HH next week and staying in Sea Pines. Last year was our first time to HH and we never found a ';great'; grocery store. Close to Sea Pines would be great but I%26#39;ll drive for better stuff. I%26#39;m looking for great produce, some organic options and good meat/seafood for grilling selection.

Any thoughts?

I%26#39;m from Cincinnati so I don%26#39;t really ';know'; any stores beyond Kroger and Wild Oats....I%26#39;m lost as to the differences between the southern chains.

Thanks a lot!

Best Grocery shopping?

I recently was there and found the Publix to be the best, it%26#39;s out by the walmart but not real close to SeaPines. There is also a PigilyWiggily closer but I found it not to have as much as the bigger store. Hope this helps.

Best Grocery shopping?

While I have never tried a Publix, I have found that Bi-Lo has a wide variety of things to choose from and they were way lower in price than Piggly Wiggly. There is a Bi-Lo in the same area as Wild Wing Cafe just off of New Orleans Road. Have a great vacation!

My favorite grocery store on the island is Publix. It does tend to be higher than Bi-Lo but I think it has more variety and a generally a better quality in its produce and meat products. We like to eat sandwiches for lunch and they carry the Boars Head brand at the deli. There is also a relatively new store on the parkway called Fresh Market. I haven%26#39;t been there but they are suppose to carry more organic options than the regular grocery store. I know they carry fresh seafood. I have heard good things about the store.

Hi

My sister from Cinci and our Family from Louisville are meeting in HH next week. Flying down on Sat June 3rd. Kroeger is big in Louisville too however we have a Fresh Market.

I can%26#39;t say much for the produce it is nice but we have a Pauls Fruit Market that I am used to. They have a great selection of fresh meats and prepared items like roasted chickens, Sushi, homemake soups. T

I guess you would call it an upscale market.

Have a great vacation.

There is a Publix on the south end near SeaPines. It is located on Palmetto Bay Road about 100 yards from Sea Pines Circle. Overall it is the best chain on the island.

They have a decent seafood department. They also have organic sections which are labeled %26#39;Green Market';

However the best seafood is at the Piggly Wiggley in Coligny. The Pig is a franchise operation similar to IGA. The Coligny Pig was formerly known as the Red and White, and was the orginal market on the island. They have LOCAL fresh catch available, so if you are looking for fresh seafood they are the place to go.

The Fresh Market is a gourmet supermarket. So if you are looking for cheeses not available elsewhere or aged steaks, this is the place to go. They have cuts such as Crown Roasts. We buy the aged Hereford beef when we have guests for a bar-be-que. They are also are good source of baked goods.

Harris - Teeter in the Park Plaza outside of Sea Pines is also a decent choice. They generally have the best produce. The seafood is also good, but they don%26#39;t steam shrimp while publix does. You also can get good cuts of meat. Buy only meat which is from the butchers custom section. This is more expensive but better quality than that available in the counters. Again buy your baked goods here directly. They will slice bread for you. The chain is more upscale than the average store, with the exception of the Fresh market

Bi - Lo and Food Lion which have stores on the island are both run of the mill supermarkets and have nothing special to offer.

hey Cincy, we%26#39;re originally from there, and my wife misses Krogers. We believe the closest grocery in SC is the Publix. Enjoy your stay. I know we will when we go down in June.

We found Piggly Wiggly to be expensive and similar to the IGA chains in Ohio. Not the place for organic or higher quality items. We went to the Sam%26#39;s club for beverages and bulk weekly items. The Kroger%26#39;s was pretty far from HHI. A couple towns over if I recall the drive in. Publix had good produce and keylime pie. It was close by to Sea Pines. We found most of the bakeries were sold ou of keylime. Maybe because it was a holiday weekend. We are from cincy too.

For fresh local seafood try Barnacle Bill%26#39;s. He is in a stand on 278 right when you get to Hilton Head. We got shrimp from him and it was good.

Also if you are planning on getting beach chairs when you get down their we found CVS to have the best prices. $10-$15 We bought some as it was cheaper than renting plus we could put them in the water.

If you like soft shell crab go to Marley%26#39;s it was great there!

The best grocery stores in the south are Publix and Harris Teeter (though some HTs are small). Best prices are at Bi-Lo. My daughter has also lived in Louisville and Publix is far and away above Krogers (IMO).
