Souvenirs ?

What can souvenirs can I bring back from Charleston ?Any ideas ?

Edibles are fine, too. Where I can I get Charleston Riverdog t-shirt for kids ?

Souvenirs ?

Riverdogs t-shirts are available in many of the shops downtown and at the Market downtown. A favorite edible to take back is a box of Pecan Pralines from Market Street Sweets on the north side of Market Street just off Meeting Street. They give free samples and you can watch them make these yummy delights! Boxes of the American Classic Tea, from the only tea planation in America, make good souveniers. They are light and easy to pack. You can find them in many of the shops downtown and in some of the local grocery stores. Charleston Rice Spoons can be found at the Market and some of the other shops such as the Historic Charleston Shop and many of the pantation gift shops and museum shops.

Pack an empty collapsable bag to carry all of it back on the plane. You will find no shortage of things to take back! There is something for everyone.

Souvenirs ?

I agree with Scblossom. I just want to add another thing. A basket from the ladies down at the market. they are beautiful and smell wonderful.

A Harley Davidson dealer T shirt is a good choice ..at approx 25$ is a good price I think

The had made grass baskets sold at the market are very expensive you would be better to go on else where outside Charleston to buy them , on the way to myrtle beach highway 17 along the grass verges are stalls .

The sweetgrass baskets are lovely! The ladies sell them down at the Market, Four Corners (Meeting St. at Broad St.) and on Hwy. 17 just north of Mt. Pleasant. They are handmade and last for a lifetime. The history of the sweetgrass baskets can be traced back to Africa.

Many of the ladies also have small pieces that can be used as a broach.

Some of the art galleries have paintings of the basket ladies and other Charleston scenes. I have Jim Reed print of the Charleston Flower Ladies. Some of the galleries also have notecards of Charleston paintings and drawings.

Hi,

I was recently in Charleston, and I brought home a local cookbook (Junior League of Charleston...a real gem!), bottles of barbecue sauce and spices from Melvin%26#39;s Barbecue (which we fell in love with!); seasonings from a fantastic restaurant called Gullah Cuisine in Mt. Peasant; and a couple of beautiful sweetgrass baskets. I highly recommend driving up north on route 17 for the baskets. What a huge difference in price from the market! Very much worth it. We didn%26#39;t have to go too far north to find a great deal either. We stopped at a few stands and did some pricing.

Happy shopping!

I dont think we%26#39;ll be renting a car :(

who has the best prices of baskets in town ?

I was just in Charleston and at the market the baskets were very expensive. Some of the ladies were kind of rude when you asked about pricing. Very few of the baskets had prices so just ask them instead of touching the baskets. I did see little flowers made from the sweetgrass for 5 bucks. I opted for that. We also went to sticky fingers and got some of the bbq sauce to take home. We went to the aquarium and fort sumter which had a lot of postcards, magnets, t-shirts etc....It is hot down there right now so don%26#39;t forget to drink lots of water!

Hi,

We had the same kind of experience at the market with the women. They seemed very defensive about their prices and their craft, and some of them seemed a bit too aggressive. I have a great deal of respect for their culture, their craft and the time, effort and now money it takes to obtain the sweetgrass. But it%26#39;s a shame that there is such a mark-up at the market. They had a drink coasters for $15 each. I eventually bought a set of 4 for $20 in Mt. Pleasant. The baskets they had priced at $75 I bought in Mt. Peasant for $25.

Anyway, in my previous post I forgot to mention that I couldn%26#39;t help but buy extra homemade cheese biscuits from Jim %26#39;N Nick%26#39;s Barbecue, and cornbread from Jestine%26#39;s. We packed them well and they arrived in New York in great condition!

I would just like to make a correction...I meant Mt. Pleasant....not Mt. Peasant. Sorry about that.
