Waves and beach fun?

Hi - am considering changing vacation destination from Panama City Beach FL to Hilton Head - simply because I like to ride the waves (with floats) and enjoy the water and beach. Only thing to do in PCB is look at Gulf of Mexico flat and boring (but beautiful) and eat and turn in early.

Wondering if the waves and surf on HHI are anything like Myrtle? Myrtle is so disgustingly dirty that I cringe just typing the name. Don%26#39;t flame me - I used to vacation there for years.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Waves and beach fun?

The waves on HHI are nothing like MB. HHI has waves just not big enough to ride. We love to ride the waves in MB, but we also like the beauty of HHI.-----Summer

Waves and beach fun?

Thank you, Summer! I appreciate the info. Can you tell me if there is a beach south of Myrtle (but north of FL line) that has just as nice waves? Maybe I should ask in the Myrtle Beach forum. Sheesh! This is so confusing - but fun!

Have a nice day -

There is a sand bar about 250 yards off shore that limits the height of the waves to a moderate level. They get to surfers heights if we get a tropical storm, but you shouldn%26#39;t be out in them then.

Thank you, HHI Guy (like the nickname, btw). We%26#39;ve thought about Tybee Island, or even Jekyl Island - St. Simons or Cumberland - but it really is hard to book a vacation to some place you%26#39;ve never seen.

I really like tripadvisor - seems the places we have gone, the posts on TA have been pretty much on the mark. (go here, don%26#39;t go there, that hotel is bad, the other charges for ____, etc...)

Thanks for sharing your expertise with us, HHI Guy - and have a nice day :)

You could vacation in Litchfield or Pawley%26#39;s Island. Both south of Myrtle. Great restaurants in Murrell%26#39;s Inlet.

Thank you! I completely forgot about Pawley%26#39;s Island! And I remember eating at Murrell%26#39;s Inlet before an evening of dancing and shagging at Mother Fletcher%26#39;s. But then, I also looked forward to having a few dogs at Peaches and checking out the lighthouses at the Gay Dolphin.

I stay at both Hilton and Myrtle and it is true that there are very small waves at Hilton. Myrtle is yukky but the waves are great alot of the time. I guess you know that the Pavilion will be torn down after this summer - they haven%26#39;t decided about the Gay Dolphin yet. Maybe you%26#39;d like to see it one more time.

Tearing down the Pavillion but they kept the Swamp Fox? What is wrong with this picture? *sigh*

Times, they are a%26#39;changin%26#39;.

Sounds like a Labor Day weekend trip to Myrtle for me :)

At least, we%26#39;ll have somewhere to go to eat our cotton candy! Do you know anything about the organ? The newspapers have not said a word about it.
