Question re: 1st time in Charleston

Hi Everyone,

I would like to know - is Charleston anything like New Orleans? It seems similar to me from photos, etc. Also, where is the most scenic place to stay for picture-taking? Any hotels or B%26amp;B%26#39;s to recommend that have lovely courtyards or gardens. I want to stay somewhere that has a real southern feel to it, rather than a hotel chain-type place. Thanks so much, all!

Darlene

Question re: 1st time in Charleston

Yes! Charleston and New Orleans are very similar. Both have a strong sense of history which may be found in the historic homes, cobblestone streets, plantations, historic tours and restaurants full of southern hospitality. Savannah also shares these traits. The most scenic place to stay is downtown historic Charleston! You will find everything you are looking for, from history, to food, to shopping and entertainment.

My recommendations for places to stay with nice courtyards/ gardens and souther charm are:

Kings Courtyard Inn, Planters Inn, Elliott House Inn, Indigo Inn, Govenor%26#39;s House Inn, and 2 Meeting Street Inn.

*Enjoy your stay!

Question re: 1st time in Charleston

Although I have never personally been to New Orleans people say all the time that the 2 cities are very similar. Charleston is a beautiful city to stroll around and view all of the beautiful sights.

For lodging options that are small and quaint some suggestion would be: 2 Meeting Street Inn, King George IV, Governors House if you want a smaller B %26amp; B. For some Historic Inns you could try the Planters Inn, the Kings Courtyard Inn or the Meeting Street Inn. All of them are in the downtown area so you are able to park your car and then get around the city easy by walking! Have a wonderful time on your vacation!

Thanks, all, so much for taking the time to provide me with valuable information. I will use your suggestions and plan my trip. Thanks, again!

Charleston and New Orleans are similar in appearance, but I do prefer Charleston--hence the reason why I live here. If money is no object, stay at 2 Meeting street (if you can get reservations). There are some very nice B and Bs South of Broad (I would stay south of broad for a southern feel) plus there is the Wentworth mansion (small luxury hotel of the world). The Mills house is a historic hotel that is centrally located. We have had positive feeback from friends that have stayed there. Hope this helps.

Charleston is a beautiful blend of the best features of New Orleans, Boston, San Francisco, Galveston with a beautiful beach thrown in. We do not have the jazz and night life that New Orleans did but Charleston has a charm and feel that is like no other.

Come and enjoy!

New Orleans early development was influenced greatly by Charleston thus they look a lot alike.
