Aiken SC

Does anyone have any info about Aiken? We had the wonderful opportunity to be in SC last Sept. We stayed at Myrtle Beach and the surrounding area. We are now looking at places to semi-retire and we%26#39;ve been told that Aiken is an ideal spot. Are there mountains near? Any rivers near for fishing? Do they have nice mobile home parks for seniors? Any info would be appreciated.

Aiken SC

I%26#39;ve lived in Aiken for all of my 46 years. I can remember when we had only 1 high school, etc. Now, it%26#39;s like a totally different place. Once it started growing, it really took off. It has kept the charm of a small town, although sometimes I feel that the traffic compares to a large city. There are several nice trailer communities, although I know of none strictly for retirees; Hidden Haven and Crossroads Mobile Home park are nice. Kalmia Landing is a retirement community of (I believe) townhomes. There are plenty of good golf courses if you like to golf. We are within a 2 1/2 - 3 hour drive of the mountains and the ocean, depending on where you choose to travel to (Myrtle Beach is 4 hours). The Savannah River is no more than a 20 minute drive from Aiken proper. There are also other rivers and lakes within a 1 -2 hour drive (or less). If we don%26#39;t have enough restaurants, shops, etc., to suit you, Augusta, GA is right across the ';river'; (Savannah river); Columbia, SC is 50 miles away; Charleston, SC is a 3 hour drive; Atlanta, GA is a 2 1/2 hour drive. We have a performing arts theatre in downtown Aiken, and also at the University of SC-Aiken. All-in-all, we are pretty much situated in an area that gives you access to anything you wish to do without having to travel more than 150 miles.

If you haven%26#39;t already done so, contact the Aiken Chamber of Commerce. I%26#39;m sure they can answer any questions you may have.

Happy retirement!!!!! I hope I get there one day!
