Senior Week advice

Okay, I need somebody to be straight with me:

1) How strict are the cops at Myrtle in relation to underage drinking?

2) Which clubs are the least strict with checking IDs? We have a bunch of 18 year olds in our group, and one 17-year-old. Which clubs might not check all the IDs or would accept an ';I left it at the hotel';?

3)Are there any good underage clubs besides The Attic?

4) We%26#39;re staying at the Sandcastel--now, really, are the awful reviews true?

Senior Week advice

Yes the drinking laws are strictly enforced at clubs and restaurants. That%26#39;s how they make their money and can%26#39;t afford to lose license because of a teenager.

Police do keep a look out for underage drinking during senior week. Have heard stories of officers patroling hotels and pools looking for violators. All it takes is a phone call from manager or another guest.

Somewhere, somehow kids still get their hands on alcohol.

Not sure about how the laws work down there. Probably safe to say if caught, the 18 year olds could spend the night in jail. 17 year old would probably have parents notified.

If caught drinking with the 17 year old, the 18 year olds could possibly face contributing charges.

Have fun.............

Senior Week advice

My son stayed at Sand Castle at the Pavillion 4 years ago during Senior Week. While it is definatly NOT a place that I, personally would want to stay, it seemed to be ok for him and his friends.

They really weren%26#39;t in their rooms much anyway, just a place to crash at night.

The police will be cruising around and walking all over the streets, especially around the Pavillion area, so do not walk around with an alcoholic beverage in your hand. Just use common sense. Keep it in your hotel room.

Be careful. Have fun!

one of my boys went 2 yrs ago. He had a 2 friends arrested for having a beer open in their car and lost their drivers license for 6 months and he(my son) got handcuffed for stepping out into stopped traffic to speak to someone. one foot was in the road.

and don%26#39;t forget your seatbelt they will get you for that too. have fun but be careful.

Sandcastle should be fine for a group of seniors.

As far as the drinking thing...well, the cops are well aware of what%26#39;s going on and will be patrolling extra heavy... so use your head %26amp; don%26#39;t give the manager or other guests a reason to complain about you. Open containers on the street is asking for trouble. You already know to stay out of the car while drinking.

My sons were both 17 on their senior trips (late birthdays) %26amp; sometimes they were let into the clubs %26amp; sometimes not. Most of the kids say that 17 year old girls are let into clubs more often than 17 year old boys. Go figure!

Have fun %26amp; be careful. Mom %26amp; Dad won%26#39;t be happy if they have to drive to MB from Charleston!

Thanks! :)

My anunt stayed at the Snadcastle before and said that theywill never do it again. e used to stay there but it is always dirty rooms and rude people at the front desk.

All of the advice of the above posts are great, just wanted to add a few tidbits....

The cops here at the beach are pretty level headed guys (and gals), but when it comes to underage drinking, they are pretty hardcore -- but coming from a parent I%26#39;m glad of that. I have seen a number of ';seniors'; cruising the Blvd. with open containers (which is against the law no matter what age you are) stopped, handcuffed, car impounded, and taken into custody. Parents are then called to post bail, and pay for the tow, etc.

And as the above posts say, if you have stuff in your hotel room, and you ';play by the rules'; no one will know, and you wont have any problems. But, if you start acting like a fool....beleive me, management will have no problem asking you to leave, and confiscating anything (alcohol) you may have in there. Then you have to look for other accomodations...no fun if 2 or 3 in the morning.

As for the clubs, there used to be a few in the area (Mother Fletchers, Freaky Tiki) that catered to those coming in for senior week...both of those locations closed towards the end of last summer (problems with the liquor license for having certain types of ';contests';) Not sure if Club Millinium where the old Club Baja used to be will allow anyone under 21....none of the clubs at Broadway will....the Attic is a 21 and under club (no alcohol), you may get by at some of the restaurants that outdoor decks, say down in the Murrells Inlet area, but cant really say yes or no. During Senior Week, most places really beef up their security...the House of Blues does do a 21 and under night, I think it may be SAturday during that week...

Have a good time! I know many of us that have made that rite of passage! Be safe!

:)
